Class, Thanks for the good points concerning life cycle. Sometimes a company can counter a shrinking market with new features or ideas. Please consider the role of innovation. Large corporations often establish a Research and Development (R&D) department to address products in decline and design new products to replace aging ones. One that comes to mind is the Lockheed-Martin “Skunk Works,” that focuses on new technology especially for the military.

Can you think of companies that do a good job of R&D?
