Mod 4 Itinerary Detailed for Foreign Exchange Student’s Friends Composition

Imagine that you are a foreign exchange student in Europe for a semester. Some friends from back home are planning to take a trip to Europe to visit you. Since you have been studying the history of Early Modern Europe, you want to show them some of the major sites. You decide that you need to create a detailed itinerary for visiting the top four cities for exploring the history of this period.

Step One: Label the following four cities on the map.

Florence (Italy)
Lisbon (Portugal)
Wittenberg (Germany)
Rome (Italy)
Renaissance
European exploration
Reformation
Counter reformation

Map showing Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and Germany. Four city locations are marked on map including one on the Portugal coast, two in central Italy, and one in northeastern Germany.

Step Two: Create your itinerary.

Include the labeled map in your itinerary. In addition, for each of the four cities you must:

  • Include one image of an artifact or place within the city. It should represent the legacy of the Renaissance, Reformation, Counter reformation, or European exploration in that city.
  • Include at least one complete paragraph to explain the significance of that artifact or location to its related period.
  • Include at least one complete paragraph to explain the role the city played during the Renaissance, Reformation, Counter reformation, or period of European exploration.

Points to Remember:

  • Some cities were important during only one of the periods, while others were important during more than one period. For example, a city like Florence was important during the Renaissance. The city of Wittenberg was important during the Reformation. Some cities, such as Rome, were important to more than one time. Focus on the period identified in the chart for each city.
  • Images can include photographs of historic buildings, paintings, sculptures, inventions, and famous books. Photographs can also show events taking place. Examples include a performance of a famous play or a celebration of a festival.
