The National Healthcare Safety Network (2023, January), reports that there was a 3% increase in SSI standardized infection ratio in 2021        despite efforts to decrease this. Reportedly 75% of SSI deaths are also from site infection as well, costing $3.3 billion annually (National        Healthcare Safety Network, 2023).
