This week we look at care in the ED. We also look at one of the most misunderstood pieces of legislation -the EMLATA.
Please make certain that you clearly communicate what is guaranteed as well as what is not guaranteed under this legislation.

- Research and review the problems associated with ED overcrowding and explain the causative factors. Include in your research the EMTALA, identifying the good and bad points of the legislation. In your view of the issue, include the concept of defensive medicine and its problematic application in healthcare, especially in the ED. As per your interpretation of the EMTALA, explain your understanding of the guarantee of care. Is the law applied correctly or incorrectly? Explain how and why with applicable references.
