You will find Cinemark’s most recent 10-k report in Sakai in the Case Assignments folder. In this report you will find the financial information necessary for this analysis.

Your task is to assess Cinemark’s performance from the perspective of a strategic manager, that is you are to assess performance in a manner to evaluate the quality of the firm’s strategy and strategic management. Use the concepts and techniques covered in class to describe the strategic performance of the firm. You may, at your discretion, include any additional analytical techniques you think appropriate or useful for the task. However, your analysis needs to stick to the objective of a strategic management analysis and not slide into perspective on financial health, valuation, or investment results/attractiveness.

*All you are to do is assess and describe the current performance condition of the firm. Do not try to diagnose the underlying problem and recommend solutions….we are a long way from having all we need to start identifying issues to address.

*Be an analyst – not a reporter! Dive right into describing your analysis of their performance. Don’t describe the company, tell their history, etc. That fluff is irrelevant to your task. Don’t report what the 10-k says, either. Use the data in the 10-k to conduct your analysis.

Write up your analysis in a brief memo-style report. Explain your assessment and conclusions (showing the data behind your logic as an attachment) and describe the implications of those conclusions as they relate to the direction of strategic management (see slide 14).

I know you’ll ask, so….length: excluding attached detail, your memo will probably be 1.5-3 pages in length.

Format for all mini cases, unless stated otherwise: Typed; single-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font; 1” Margins all sides. Print both sides if you can…and if multiple sheets – STAPLE. Strive for a crisp, clear, and complete presentation – what any boss would want to receive (i.e. organize it for a quick read and don’t include a bunch of filler/non-essential info).
