My third question is below:

Redner’s chapter on Society presents a not so upbeat discussion on the nature and future of a post-modern society. One thing he stresses is the nature of human interaction in megalopolis. This is an interesting discussion in the important sense that for globalization to work optimally it must involve a population that still sees itself as belong to a larger society and its culture. He suggests that a sense of class membership helps root us as individuals and gives us an identity with society as well as aspirations for work/labor and upward mobility. However, with the forces of consumer-driven culture, he argues that we, as individuals become atomized.

What does Redner mean by the atomization of the individual? Is this a fatal blow to the positive effects of globalization? What can peripheral nation and a central nation do to prevent atomization?
