Many ethical issues are embedded in “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”. In the first section of the book, we learn that Henrietta’s cells were taken without informed consent. What is informed consent? In your opinion, is informed consent a necessary component of doctor:patient relationships? Was Henrietta’s race a factor in the lack of informed consent?
