Series and Parallel RC Circuits

Analysis:

  1. For Laboratory Application Assignment on pg. 555 examine Fig. 18-37.
  2. Perform the following calculations:
    • Xc
    • Z1
    • I
    • Vc
    • Vr
    • thetaZ
  3. Examine Fig. 18-38a and perform the following calculations:
    • Xc
    • Ic
    • Ir
    • It
    • Zeq
    • theta1
  4. Scan all calculations showing all work in a file called “Lab3_Analysis_StudentID”.
  5. Upload file “Lab3_Analysis_StudentID”

Simulation:

  1. Construct the circuit in Fig. 18-37 with MultiSIM.
  2. Measure the following values with a DMM:
    • I
    • Vc
    • Vr
    • Vt – requires a calculation
    • Xc – requires a calculation
    • thetaZ – requires a calculation
    • Do not construct phasor voltage triangle.  Disregard instructions to measure phase angle with the oscilloscope.
  3. Capture a screenshot of measured values and paste into a Word document entitled “Lab3_Simulation_StudentID”
  4. Construct the circuit in Fig. 18-38a with MultiSIM.
  5. Measure the following values with a DMM:
    • Ic
    • Ir
    • It
    • It – requires a calculation
    • theta1 – requires a calculation
    • Xc – requires a calculation
    • Zeq – requires a calculation

  6. Capture a screenshot of measured values and paste into the Word document entitled “Lab3_Simulation_StudentID”
  7. Answer all questions in the “Series RC Circuit” and “Parallel RC Circuit” sections on pg. 555 in this same document.
