Police officers now routinely wear vests that can stop bullets. Judge routinely order electronic monitoring as a condition of probation. Prisons administer health care without moving prisoners through the miracle of telemedicine. Community groups can assess the incidence of crime in their neighborhoods with sophisticated computerized crime maps. What about the technology in the prsion, why there’s always a pick and choice option and technology is in the back burner. The criminal justice system is trying to address the important needs of groups who come into contact with it. That’s including youths, Aboriginal peoples, women, the poor, ill and aging offenders, victims, and the wrongfully convicted. Each of these groups presents the system with unique difficulties; together, they represent a significant challenge. Further, for the most, each agency in the system manages key challenges and initiatives separately. Demographic factors affect the implementation of technology. Demographics are characteristics such as race, wealth, religion, population density, and age. The economic factor is another issue criminal justice organizations face when implementing available technologies. The government decides where the funds for the most advanced technological resources are distributed.
