Using information from the attached documents and from outside reading, please respond to each question below as regards the corresponding case study in approximately 2-3 paragraphs per question. All cited material must include both internal citations and a complete reference list at the end of the paper. A cover sheet should minimally indicate the Case Study number, and the date.

How to Write a Case Study

You have to think like a practicing manager if you want to analyze a case successfully. As part of your analysis, it is necessary, but not sufficient to answer the following questions in enough depth to show that you have performed more than a superficial reading of the case’s content, and subsequently applied relevant theory.

·  What is the issue being presented or analyzed in the case? Focus on the main issue in the case if more than one topic is presented. Use your judgment to decide on which issue is the one that is potentially most costly to an organization if left unresolved. There are more kinds of cost to be considered than economic costs. Do not neglect them in your analysis.

·  Where did the issue take place? Consider this because you need to take into account cultural and environmental considerations that may differ from those of the United States, in your analysis.

·  When did the issue take place? There may be historic and environmental considerations different from those of the United States, which should be taken into account in your analysis.

·  Who was affected by the issues? In other words, who are the stakeholders inside and outside of the organization that need to be considered when formulating an analysis, and possible response to the situation?

·  Why did the issue occur? This may involve conjecture on your part. It is all right to speculate; just identify your speculation as such. In an empirical case, causal factors may be identified as such.

·  How would you, as a manager, apply the insights gained from the case to improve an (your) organization’s operations?

Answers should be written in grammatically correct, well-formulated English sentences. Each paragraph should be organized around a single topic, and transitions should flow logically from one paragraph to the next.

2.  You may want to consider the above factors (“How to write a case study”) when you are preparing your case answers as an aid to organizing your information if you find it helpful. Please answer the question using what, where, when, who, why and how.

3. What were the main sources of information that informed the diagnosis?

In the wake of the terrorist attacks in September 2001, the 9/11 Commission recommended that the U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) find a way to improve information sharing of terrorism-related intelligence at all three levels of government (local, state, and federal). The USIC’s answer to this recommendation was the creation of intelligence fusion centers.

Since the creation of these intelligence fusion centers, there has been much controversy because of the large amounts of personal information secretly collected and shared within the U.S. intelligence and law enforcement communities. In addition, some critics argue that in the years since their creation, fusion centers and the law enforcement entities affiliated with them have moved away from their original purpose and instead have utilized federal grants and resources to fight local crime.

  • Are fusion centers now being used as a local law enforcement tool to help fight local crime? Why or why not?

–  Encouraging Ethical Behavior in Employees (e.g. consider the impact of their actions on climate change, ensure the safety of others, consider how actions impact multiple stakeholders)

–  How leader can change the organization

I. Summary (15 points)

In this section, please summarize your choice of article. It should be about 1-2 paragraphs, and less than one page.

II. Define the main problem/issue (15 points)

In this section, please try to find the main problem/ issue from your choice of article. The main problem/ issue can be similar to what your chosen article author is arguing. On the other hand, you may not agree with the author’s point of view. Please describe whether you agree/disagree with the author, and would like to add a point with your own opinion. It should be about 1-2 paragraphs, and less than one page.

III. Application (50 points)

This is the most important section of this assignment. Try to find related theory from your textbook or lecture note and apply to your chosen article. For example, if you choose to study on employee job satisfaction, you need to describe (1) how job satisfaction can be defined (or measured) in the organization, (2) what other things are related to job satisfaction, and (3) what leader should know to improve job satisfaction based on what we learn (will learn). For other topics, application should be different from the example above. I am expecting to see at least THREE application points from our course material. This section should be more than 2.5 pages.

IV. Conclusion (15 points)

This is a short paragraph of what you have discussed through the assignment. It should be about 1-2 paragraph and less than a half page.

V. Reference and Appendix (5 points)

This section is not included in your total page. You should include the article you searched with the web address. Also, if possible, you need to copy the article in the appendix, so I can check the article that you searched for the assignment. 

Format: Please make sure to include following items in your assignment
with subheadings for each section. Excluding exhibits and attachments, with 12-point font, double spacing, and one-inch margins. 4 pages.
