Beck Manufacturing
Al Beck, president of Beck manufacturing, wants to determine the capacity of his facility, which produces steering gears for auto manufacturers.He has asked you to sort through the data and determine the capacity of the system and how that capacity may be increased. The operation isa product layout that produces large numbers of nearly identical products. The process includes milling, grinding, boring, drilling, and assembling, in that order. Each finished product requires one operation on each type of machine. For example, each finished part is processed on one of the five milling machines, one of the seven grinding machines, etc.
The facility runs two 8hour shifts per day, with a third shift for maintenance. The industrial engineering department has provided you with the following data on present operations. In addition, you have been told that assembly operations, while not unlimited, can be easily changed to meet the need.

Several issues have arisen on the Recreation and Wellness Intranet Project. The person from the HR department who was supporting the project left the company, and now the team needs more support from that group. A member of the user group that supports the project is extremely vocal and hard to work with, and other users can hardly get a word in at meetings. The project manager, Tony, is getting weekly status reports from all of his team members, but many of them do not address obvious challenges that people are facing. This week our main topic has been narrative. Narrative is our way to make sense of our world and pass key values to future generations. We experienced text narrative (Chinese Nian, Slough and Memories: Bothell in 1914), visual narrative (Grandfather’s Journey), Audio narratives (Living without a Net), and we listened how writers and artists talking about their own work (Interview with Allen Say, Phil Borges Culture in Danger, Danger of a Single Story). What do we learn from all of those, and how can be get inspired from it?
