ISM 200 Research Project

The following is the research project for ISM 200: Management Information Systems. This is an individual project and covers key material discussed in this course. This project has four components, due in Units 2, 4, 5, 6.Each is explained below.

Through this research project, you will:

1)Researchinformation systems used by specific business/industry for strategic or operational purposes

2)Construct a model of the information systems, assessing the business value gained, the necessary components, and the methods for connecting the business to consumers or other businesses.

3)Identify potential risks associated with implementation of this system, both in terms of technical concerns as well as business concerns.

Assignment Overview

In this course, you will examine the benefits of implementing information systems to support business strategic and operational initiatives. You will gain an understanding of core foundations of information systems: software, hardware, networks, databases, and the personnel required to ensure successful implementation of these systems. You will also gain an understanding of the inherent risks associated with implementing information systems for both businesses and consumers.

For this project, you will conduct research to identify a software solution for a specific industry. You may begin with the industry, such as healthcare, and then identify the system, or you may begin with a type of solution, such as a Supply Chain Management System, and then identify the type of business in which it is used. The solution you select must support more than one function within an organization. For example, it would be acceptable to identify a Human Resource Enterprise solution, focusing on the numerous modules for which this can comprise.Individual solutions, such as payroll solution, are too narrow of the purpose of this project. You should use all resources available to you as you begin this search. You should choose an industry in which you have some personal experience with the business, such as healthcare, retail markets such as groceries.

Once you have identified the solution and industry, conduct research about why a business would implement this type of solution. You are expected to identify three (3) to five (5) strategies that this solution would support within that industry. These should be strategies and not tactical actions. Here are examples of each from the healthcare industry. An example of a strategy would be to “Create a seamless integration between all healthcare providers and the patient to ensure patient information is available at the right time, the right place, and for the right purpose.”An example of a tactical plan would be to “automate the medical record.”A strategy brings focus to the initiative; a tactical plan is one component that enables the initiative.

Unit 2 Research Project Identification

Write a short paper identifying and describing the industry and the specific solution for your final project. The detail should include an overall description of the industry, the name of the specific product and the name of the company that produces it, information about the company, the modules offered within the product base, information about the intended users of the system, and overall expected benefits obtained by implementing the system. For example, within a Human Resource Enterprise Solution the student might find the following modules: Employment Module, Timekeeping, Benefits, Workforce Management, Resource Management, etc.The paper should identify and explain 3-5 reasons why a business would implement this product for strategic reasons.Be sure to cite relevant course materials and at least two relevant scholarly or professional journal articles written in the last 5 years to support the content of this paper. The use of our online Deets Library is strongly encouraged.

Unit 4 Research Project Core Components

Identify the key information system components required to support this product, specifically identifying any detailed hardware requirements (servers, storage, mobile or stationary devices, etc.), software requirements (operating software and other third party software), database requirements, and key network requirements (internal and external) that will ensure the system can be used by the intended audience.Identify the detailed hardware and network specifications in an Excel spreadsheet.Do NOT submit the actual detailed specifications published by the company. In addition, identify the type of human resources required to support the implementation of this system and the amount of implementation labor required. You should make an effort to quantify all costs associated with all components and implementation.Write a brief paper describing the individual components, implementation requirements, and expected capital and operating expenses to be incurred. Some vendor sites will provide the above information at a high level. You should also research sites providing testimonials by businesses that have purchased the product; sites where products are contrasted in functionality and price; and any other site that enables the student to access the requested information.Be sure to cite relevant course materials and at least two relevant scholarly or professional journal articles written in the last 5 years to support the content of this paper. The use of our online Deets Library is strongly encouraged.

Unit 5 Research Project Implementation

Identify the approach you would use to acquire (purchase or lease) and implement the system (outsource or insource).Identify the potential risks associated with the chosen approach for both the acquisition and the implementation of this system.Identify any laws and regulations that will need to be addressed when the system is implemented.Document this information in a brief paper. Be sure to cite relevant course materials and at least two relevant scholarly or professional journal articles written in the last 5 years to support the content of this paper. The use of our online Deets Library is strongly encouraged.

Unit 6 Research Project Paper

Research and categorize the ethical, legal, social responsibility, and security challenges for the overall management of information system, and defend how each category applies to this project.Combine this information with all of information from the prior research project assignments and detail it in a 1500-word paper.Your paper should:

Be written in an objective and substantive manner.

Be a minimum of 2000 words with the title page and reference pages excluded from the word count.

Use APA format, but should not include an abstract.

Be sure to cite relevant course materials and at least six relevant scholarly or professional journal articles written in the last 5 years to support the content of this paper. The use of our online Deets Library is strongly encouraged.

Case writing

about 700 words

use easy words

do not need reference

Think critically about First Amendment rights as you develop this essay. In your essay, address the questions posed following the scenario, but make it all flow as though those questions are thoughts you have and know that they must be considered in arriving at a solution to your journalistic dilemma. Do not list the questions within your essay and then answer them individually. You must fully justify the path you choose. In other words, whether you choose a solution that is provided to you within the case scenario or another one you have come up with on your own, you must explain completely why you have made this choice. Refer to at least two previously decided cases (precedent) as partial support for your decision. Do not start off writing the scenario as it appears in this assignment simply to add words to your essay. You may begin by briefly explaining the dilemma you are facing.

Case 4

Will a negative story be allowed to run in a high school newspaper? THE SCENARIO: 4 As a high school journalist, you have developed several sources of information about the football camp held each year at your school. You hear that brutal hazing is part of athletes’ initiation to the team. Investigating further, you learn that new players are subject to various humiliations and assaults, sometimes with broomsticks, electrical cords and socks stuffed with tennis balls. This is a big, important story. Kids are being hurt. You work hard to get your facts right and spend a great deal of effort checking and double-checking your sources. Your newspaper’s adviser supports you and your work. But when you are ready to publish the story in the school newspaper, the principal says you can’t run it unless you make substantial changes. You must eliminate a player’s comments and add a prepared statement from the football coach. The coach also says this is “negative journalism” and wants you to hold the story until after the playoffs. What do you do? A. Drop the story. You know you’ve done a good job, but if the principal won’t let you run the story as you have prepared it, you won’t run it at all. B. Wait until after the playoffs, as the coach requests, and then print the story according to the principal’s requirements: Drop the player’s comments and run the football coach’s statement. At least some of the information you have uncovered will come out. C. Print the story as your principal demands, by dropping the player’s comments and running the football coach’s statement. But add an editor’s note at the end of the story,

White Paper on gun control and gun violence, law homework help

Please review guidelines on how the white paper should be constructed. The white paper should address gun control and gun violence. My expectation is that paper meets the standards of the guidelines in order for me to release payment. I understand if you don’t have access to use UMUC Library OneSearch as a source but still requires 5 different source.

Guidelines for White Paper

Strategies to Keep in Mind

• have a focused topic• write to an identified audience

If your white paper will be written to an internal audience, it might have a fairly narrow focus. For example, if you work in a hair salon and write a white paper promoting a new billing system for your salon, the audience will probably be the owner and manager of the hair salon.

If your white paper will be written to an external audience, it could have a broader focus. For example, if you do not work for a hair salon and you write a white paper promoting a new billing system for hair salons, the audience may be the various hair salons in your neighborhood.

If your white paper will be written to promote a product or service to potential customers, it could have an even broader scope. For example, a white paper promoting a new taxi service in your neighborhood has, theoretically, all residents in the neighborhood as a potential audience.

To complete this assignment, be sure to: Integrate thorough research.

Provide adequate information, and leave the decision on which action(s) to take up to the audience. Your goal is to offer background information that the audience can use to make an informed decision. The Purdue OWL video particularly mentions this principle, which is one reason the video refers to the white paper as “a backgrounder report.”

Include the following sections in your White Paper:

• Executive Summary

• Introduction

• Previous Approaches

• New Findings

• Conclusion • References

In the Executive Summary (ES) of your White Paper, summarize your research and your purpose. The ES should be a stand-alone document. It should be written in such a way that a busy executive could read the summary only, and know exactly what the paper is about.

In the Introduction section of your White Paper, lay the groundwork for your readers on the details that will be introduced in the paper. If you need to define any terms, do so there. You might also share an anecdote or illustration to describe why this topic is important and relevant.

In the Previous Approaches section, describe the methods or strategies that have been previously used, or are currently used on the topic.

For example, if your white paper is being written to advertise a new taxi service in your area, you might review what transportation services are provided now. You could show the challenges or problems that the current services involve. In this section of the White Paper, your use of sources will be very important. Integrate research to show that the problems you have identified do, in fact, exist, and that they merit attention.

In the New Findings section, present the most important information in the paper. Describe the findings of your research, and relate those findings to the purpose of your report. Do not only provide data and research, but also explain the data and research, and tell why it is relevant and significant to your report’s topic.

For example, if your white paper is being written to advertise a new taxi service in your area, you might review what transportation services are provided now, and show why the new taxi service fills a need that the current set of transportation services does not fill, or that it solves a problem the current set of transportation services does not solve.

Provide data and evidence for why the new taxi service has promise in solving the problems you have identified. In this section of the paper, your use of sources will be very important as well. Integrate research to show the problems you identified will be solved by your new approach.

In the Conclusion section, review what your research shows in light of the previous approaches used. Do not tell the audience what steps to take next. However, do summarize what your research findings articulate.

In the References section, list the sources you cited in the paper in APA format. Please note that the lectures on white papers you have viewed, and examples of white papers you have read, may not have used APA, but this is the documentation style you will be required to use.

Identify and incorporate at least five (5) sources for your White Paper. At least one of them must have been acquired through UMUC Library OneSearch.

Primary sources will be very beneficial for the paper. For example, if your white paper is being written to advertise a new taxi service in your area, you might interview some local residents about the problems they have with the current transportation services, or conduct a survey. The information you gather could be compelling research to integrate into your White Paper.

  • Length of the White Paper

Your white paper should be 2000-3000 words in length. Again, you are required to use at least five sources, with at least one of them being acquired through UMUC Library OneSearch.

    Graphics

Your white paper should incorporate at least three graphics. Graphic can include tables, charts, graphs, or photographs that show some research findings, or are relevant to the paper topic.

At least two of the graphics must be original. Original graphics can include photos taken by you; tables, charts, or graphs developed by you; or screen captures showing a function on your computer (not a screen capture of an image off of the web).
