Next month, the agency you work for is opening a sister office in a neighboring city. The Board has tapped you as Director for the new location, and you’re thrilled with your promotion. In your capacity as Director, you’ve recently hired several new employees. The latest hires are coming in for training next week, and you want to make sure they understand your vision for appropriate office culture.

On one hand, you want everyone to feel completely comfortable in their work environment. On the other hand, you believe that the best ideas are often the result of creative collaboration between peers, and that some conflict is an inevitability of this process. You’ve learned from your previous position that the best approach to leadership is clear communication of expectations. To convey your complex ideas to incoming personnel, then, you have decided to prepare a professional presentation to share at an upcoming orientation session.

Your goal is to present a “creativity constitution” for the new office. Fortunately, you’ve done something similar to this in segments at your old job. You have the relevant experience to draw on in generating strategies for enhancing both the art aesthetic and level of productivity at work. You also have exposure to methods of avoiding/resolving conflict as passionate ideas bump up against one another. This will surely prove useful in completing your upcoming task.

You have already decided to mimic your old boss and mentor, and to preface your constitution with a brief explanation of why the forthcoming presentation will prove to be so useful for each trainee. Next, for the heart of the presentation, you have deemed it essential to address the following core issues and questions:

  • How should new employees determine whether to display their preferred workplace art?
  • How should art be presented and understood when engaging on the topic with co-workers?
  • How should employees specifically approach each day and every item they encounter in the workplace and the world?
  • How will the creative talents of the employees be challenged while keeping their minds active for the creative process?
  • What activities and problem-solving systems can be utilized, and how will these systems benefit the staff and work environment?
  • What connections can be made between the employees’ level of happiness, stress, and morale to the elements of art and creativity?

You read over your list of questions, satisfied. As you close your laptop, you remember to apply another bit of helpful advice from your ex-boss: Whatever techniques and strategies I decide to recommend should be supported by a high level of thorough analysis.

From ancient drum beats to e-mail, methods of communications have progressed astronomically. However, no matter the method of delivery, communications still face detrimental barriers, such as misinterpretation, jargon, slang, and even poor pronunciation and dialect. It is not enough to be able to speak more than one language; it is necessary to be able to reason and convince in second or third languages. A breakdown in communication is always the first rationalization when errors are made or a directive is misinterpreted. Added to the linguistic problems, bureaucratic stacks and layers of personnel, offices, bureaus, and agencies will cause confusion, misdirection, and revision of documents and messages.

Address the following in a 4-page paper:

  • What is the National Strategy for The Physical Protection of Critical Infrastructures and Key Assets?
    • When was it created?
    • Who created it?
    • Why was it created? Explain.
  • How are communications addressed in the strategy documentation? Explain.
  • Explain the concept of the inter-relationship of infrastructure sectors.
    • How does the well-being or disruption of one sector affect the others? Explain.
      • Provide 2–3 examples of infrastructure interdependency
  • What can stakeholders and industry professionals involved in the various sectors do to protect themselves and each other? Explain.
    • Consider communications, information sharing, technology, and so forth.

Be sure to reference all sources using APA style.

Crime Statistics

The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) and the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) are two important sources for understanding how crime is measured and viewed in the United States. The UCR presents the number of arrests and crime rate, while the NCVS gathers data from victims on the type of crime experienced and whether it was reported to police.

Oftentimes, the reality of crime—as displayed in these data sources—does not align with public perception. For this Discussion, you access and analyze key crime statistics for your community or the area in which you work. You also compare those statistics with your perception of crime and safety as a community member.

To prepare:

Locate crime statistics for your community, Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Be sure to allow yourself time to conduct this research.

  • Report the statistics for the 8 Type 1 index offenses in your community, including the identification of your community and a reference for where you found your statistics.
  • Explain whether the statistics match your perceptions. Explain the reasons for differences or similarities between the perception and reality of crime in your community.
  • Recommend one way in which you could address this difference between crime perception and statistics. Support your suggestion with examples from professional experience or with evidence from the learning resources.

Executive Summary: MAJOR RESEARCH PROJECT

Your paper must include the following: Using the unique array of primary sources available, you are asked to examine the competing societal priorities (values) held by advocates on differing sides of corrections. You will need to study and look at a variety of views about the political, economical, and societal world view to begin to formulate your own views about the priorities and perspectives required for corrections. You will need to address who your stakeholders will be. A stakeholder is a person who either works in a prison or has knowledge about prisons. Your task is to write an executive summary reflecting your research and analysis on your type of prison. You may select a point of departure for your research according to your interests, either around a policy issue or an interest group. Your executive summary must demonstrate thorough familiarity with 1) the level of security you have chosen, 2) how do you plan to take this new vision to the public square, and 3) the diverse positions of various advocacy organizations (educational, business, governmental). This shall involve demonstrating a working knowledge of alternative proposals along with their supporting rationale . At a minimum, your summary should: Analyze the priorities (values) and perspectives (view of government’s role or the organization’s role) expressed in the various proposals discussed within your area of research. Be sure to compare and contrast competing or differing priorities and perspectives when you find them. Make sure you address how you will take this new concept to the public square (writing your Congressperson will not be sufficient). Requirements: Your essay must be concise and compact—i.e., not more than three (3) pages in length, not counting the Title page, Abstract, endnotes, and Reference. Standard format is typed, 12 cpi, double-spaced, 1 inch margins, and numbered pages. Include endnotes and references of all sources used, whether cited or not. In this forum please examine the Supreme Court’s use of judicial review. One reason the Supreme Court is unique is the practice of judicial review.  Judicial review is the power of a court to decide the constitutionality of laws or of the acts of a government official.  In other words, the Court’s power of “judicial review” refers to its authority to review laws and executive action and strike them down when it deems them unconstitutional. This power insures that the Court is well positioned to protect individual rights and to apply the Constitution to new situations as they arise.

In 1803, Marbury v. Madison made clear this power of judicial review.  Please be sure to review the lesson for week 2 where you will see a thorough outline of Marbury v. Madison and more explanation of judicial review.

In the decision, Chief Justice John Marshall wrote that it was the duty of the Supreme Court to strike down unconstitutional laws. Ironically, the practice of judicial review is not outlined in the Constitution, but the Court is expected to assume this role.

Hamilton argued that judicial review made sure that the people, through the Constitution, would have power over legislatures. Madison argued that independent judges would be more appropriate arbiters of the Constitution than the chaos and factionalism of the political process.

Do you think it is a problem for the Court to have such an immense power even though it is not specifically granted to them in the Constitution?   If the origins of judicial review are not found in the Constitution, what grants the Court this power? Did the framers intend the Supreme Court to possess the power of judicial review?

How has the Court done with this role of exercising judicial review? Please choose one of these three recent cases cases involving judicial review. Review the summary of the case at the link below and discuss in your initial forum post how the Court exercised judicial review specifically in this case and if you believe it was a proper execution of this power.
