    • Summarize how the violation was handled
    • Share applicable financial information (for example: Company Y lost $X in sales)
    • Analyze the legal ramifications of the situation and discuss concepts from the class that relate to the violation.

Case Assignment

Use the scholarly literature to identify an environmental/occupational health, global health security, health education, or public health problem that will serve as the focus of your integrative project. Select the type or form of project you wish to conduct—a literature review, program plan, program evaluation, policy analysis, or research proposal—and in a 2- to 3-page paper, address the following:

  1. What is your rationale for addressing the problem you have chosen? What contribution will examining this problem make to you professionally as you enter the field? Make sure to utilize quantitative and qualitative data from scholarly sources to support your rationale.
  2. What resources will you require to complete your project? Consider, in particular, time required to conduct background research and acquire necessary source documents.
  3. To what extent was selection of this project topic and form based upon evidence from the scholarly literature? Please explain.
  4. Develop and present a project timeline in which you identify all project tasks as associated timeframes for completion. Microsoft Offline Online is a good resource for obtaining free timeline templates (see https://templates.office.com/en-us/Timelines). This timeline should reflect at least two tasks to be completed for each week of the session.

Upload this project proposal to the Case 1 Dropbox by the end of this module.

MHS599 Module 1 – SLP

The Session Long Project of this course will be where you begin the process of becoming an expert on the problem you have chosen to address by assembling the scholarly materials gathered for your Case assignments into an annotated bibliography (annotated bibliographies were introduced in MHS 504). Your bibliography should conform to American Psychological Association (APA) formatting guidelines. You will accumulate sources and write annotations as you gather new scholarly materials every week and submit updated versions of your bibliography at the conclusion of each module (the final version of your annotated bibliography is due at the conclusion of Module 4). Remember, your annotations should capture sufficiently the essence of what the source document was about and any critical details you will want to be able to recall as you begin drafting your report, plan, etc.; for this reason, tremendous care should be taken in drafting your annotations.

Your Task for This Assignment

For Module 1, identify a minimum of 5-8 scholarly sources (at least 5 of which must be peer reviewed) and provide annotations for each. Upload this initial draft of your annotated bibliography to the SLP 1 Dropbox by the conclusion of this module.

Pick one of the following types of disasters in the United States, and present how disaster response and emergency management have changed (or not changed) over the last 100 years for that type of disaster:

  • hurricanes,
  • earthquakes,
  • tornadoes,

Recommend further improvements in your concluding slide. Describe how lessons learned from 1900 to present time contributed to improved disaster planning and response.

Look at the events from 1979–2001 in your textbook on pages 132–133. During this period, there were a multitude of events such as hurricanes, flooding, and earthquakes that required a Presidential Declaration for assistance in that particular state.

Create a table similar to that on pages 132–133 that includes events from 2002–current year. The table should include the following information:

Next, write a summary that coordinates with the five events in the table. In your summary for each disaster, you should cover the following information.

  • Correlate each disaster listed in the table to the implementation of disaster-focused improvement for that event. In other words, what did we learn as a nation when the event occurred? 
  • Was the United States prepared for this event?
  • Did our disaster response meet the needs of the communities impacted by the event?
  • Were special programs, resources, or monies created to better prepare for another event similar to this one?
  • Describe how the stand up of FEMA changed emergency management and disaster response.

Your document should be at least three pages in length (including the table you have created). If you created the table in Excel, be sure to place that chart in your Word document. You may do this by using the Snip It Tool or taking a snap shot of the chart. You must include at least three sources in your research, and the information should be cited and referenced in APA format.
