Why Women In CJS?

Below are the questions for your first major overview assignment. The readings, questions, and quizzes for this module will assist you understanding how and why the rise in the study of women entering jail/prison and as offenders in general is important to the study of crime and criminology.

As with all assignments for this and other courses, you are expected to write in full and complete sentences unless prompted to only list specific items for a response. You are also expected to proofread for spelling and grammatical errors before submission for ease of reading and comprehension. Lastly, you are expected to always write discussion responses in your own words, do not copy and paste from the articles.

The readings needed for this assignment are located in the readings section of the module.

____________________________________________________________________________

  1. According to the Introductory chapter titled, “Women, Gender, and Crime,” the terms sex and gender are different and should be treated as such. First, discuss how the two terms are different as they relate to women and prison. Second, do you agree or disagree with their description of the two terms? Discuss why or why not you agree or disagree and provide your own (add another besides the one given) example of how to describe the difference (or no difference) between the two terms.
  2. According to the same paper, why were the 1960’s and 1970’s so significant to women? More specifically, how did these two decades impact the study of women and crime?
  3. The significance of feminist criminology in and of itself as a field of criminology can not be ignored, because “without the rise of feminism,” we probably would not see scholars and government agencies concerned with what type of issues often related to women? List these issues/crimes?
  4. The same book chapter also highlights the role of women in the ASC. What is the ASC and what role did women play in changing the outlook of the organization as it pertained to women? In your discussion, make certain to list the top five topic areas that helped to shift the focus of some of the discussion on crime to that of women.
  5. According to the Sentencing Project’s overview of Women in the CJS (see women’s pathway to crime in module), the growth of women under correctional supervision has increased dramatically. What are three (3) major issues highlighted by the authors as key influences to this rise in women in the CJS? List the three items and then briefly discuss if and how any of these items were also presented in the book chapter (Women, Gender, and Crime) as key influences to women being jailed and incarcerated.
  6. Now turning to the “women’s pathway to crime” article linked in the module. They begin by introducing some of the major research that links certain key life events to women’s being introduction to crime. List all of the items mentioned.
  7. For the author, Smith, she is most concerned with the actual timing of traumatic events and women’s intro to the criminal justice system. Therefore, please discuss her main hypothesis, her main independent variable (tell me what it is and how it is measured), and the role of this independent variable as it relates to one’s entrance into the criminal justice system.

Assignment 4: The Future of Cyber Crimes and Cyber Terrorism

Due Week 10 and worth 75 points

In the United States, a number of law enforcement agencies, including the Secret Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Department of Homeland Security, among others, have taken on roles to fight computer crimes and terrorism.

Use the Internet or Strayer library to research articles on the efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat cyber crimes and cyber terrorism, as well as the roles of such agencies in the future of the combat in question.

Create a 15-slide presentation or 10-minute video presentation using Kaltura in which you address the following:

  1. Explain how the process of digital evidence is similar to the process of traditional crime scene evidence.
  2. Identify some of the best sources of digital evidence for child abuse and exploitation, domestic violence, and gambling according to the National Institute of Justice.
  3. Smartphones contain digital data and are often a key source of information for crimes. Summarize a criminal case in which a smartphone was a critical component in obtaining a conviction, focusing on how the digital forensics from the phone was utilized in the case.
  4. Describe Brothers’ steps for forensic analysis of mobile devices.
  5. Use at least four (4) quality references for this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Presentation Pro Tips:

  • Practice, practice, practice. Say it over and over again so that you come across cool and collected and your information isn’t lost in your nervousness or verbal stops (um, er, uh).
  • PowerPoints should have only a single thought on each slide and complete sentences are not necessary. Sometimes a single word with a good graphic or just a strong graph is all you need.
  • Use 18 point font or larger. (18 point font is the smallest that can be read from across the room.)
  • Relax. You know the information. Now you’re just showing it.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • This course requires use of new Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other Strayer University courses. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required page length.

Part 1:

From the various news sources about the February 14, 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Parkland, Florida, prepare an in depth reference paper describing who, what, when, where, how, and why regarding the shooting event. (When describing who; subject, any identified officers, i.e. Scott Israel, the deputy who did not enter and fight, officers who did, victims, teachers, etc. What did they do or not do?)

Part 2:

There were a number of issues that were of national debate following the shooting incident at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School. One of these focused on the weapon used, the AR 15 “Military Assault Weapon.”

  • Research the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. What does it allow and what doesn’t it allow regarding gun restrictions? Why did our forefathers include the Second Amendment (what were they afraid of)?
  • What is/are assault weapon(s) and how do they differ from “non-assault weapons” (if there is such a thing)?
  • Are there any firearm restrictions at the state level (you choose the state of your choice), county, or municipal levels, and if so, argue for and against (equally) applying similar laws to the so called “assault weapon(s).”

Written Assignments are to be typed, single spaced, Verdana 12 font, and should be no less than four (4) pages and no longer than eight (8) pages in length.  NOTE: I won’t accept your responses without multiple citations from peer review resources and/or citations from periodicals and other valid publications. Law

Deliverable Length:  Key Assignment Revision; 3 new pages (8-10 total pages)

You will receive extensive feedback related to the content on your first draft of the Key Assignment. Your first task for your final assignment is to incorporate this feedback into your revised version of the essay.Assignment GuidelinesRevise your Key Assignment from Week 4 by incorporating the instructor and peer feedback that you have received.  Address the following by adding to your policy from the Week 4 Key Assignment. The additions should consist of 3 new pages:  Address the Constitutional implications of suicidal inmates based on decisions made in cases such as the Supreme Court Case of Estelle v. Gamble (1976), and Newman v. Alabama (1974).  How have these decisions impacted your policy? Explain.  Revise your policy, if necessary, so that it is in accordance with these Supreme Court case decisions. How do you distinguish the potential suicide victim who is crying out for help from the manipulative inmate? The manipulative inmate will often threaten or feign suicide in an attempt to get his way, or in court, to bolster his insanity defense or gain sympathy.  Add to your policy by establishing the requirements and protocol for addressing these types of situations. How does the problem of prison overcrowding impact the issue of inmate suicide from both administration and victim perspectives?  Add to your policy to establish requirements and protocol for addressing suicidal inmates in an overcrowded correctional facility environment.  Be sure to justify your policy modification using academic and scholarly research. If you have not already done so in Week 4, identify 2 documentation practices that will enhance inmate care and reduce the risk of legal action.  Add to your policy the protocol and best practices regarding these 2 potential issues. Be sure to reference all sources using APA style.

In LEA316: Ethics in Law Enforcement, you wrote a final paper analyzing ethical theories and your moral beliefs.  Drawing upon your research for this paper and the topics covered in this capstone, write a code of conduct that you think every police officer should follow. Then, explain how this code of conduct promotes good leadership and integrity in law enforcement officers.
  • Community Development Plan  (six to eight pages)
You are the leader of your agency’s planning and research division and have been asked to present a critical analysis of policing as it will appear ten years into the future. Write a report based on peer-reviewed research. Refer to the Community Development Plan Instructions for the required components of this portion of your e-portfolio.
  • Technology Proposal (one to two pages)
Identify three types of technology that will be useful for your hometown agency to adopt in the future in order to maintain an effective law enforcement agency. Please use research to explain.
  • Reference Page

You may also include a writing sample from a previous Law Enforcement Administration Course. Look back through your previous course work and choose a paper or project that best showcases your work. Many employers will want to see a writing sample. Make sure you revise your work using the feedback you received in order to make the paper/project the best it can be. Please not that this is not a requirement.

The paper must be at least ten pages in length (excluding the title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. Pain

The neurological system affects all parts and functions of the body through nerve stimulation. Nerves also control the sensation and perception of pain. While pain can be described in a variety of ways, it is essentially labeled according to its duration and source. As an advanced practice nurse evaluating a patient, you need to consider the following questions: Does the pain quickly come and go, or is it persistent and ongoing? Does the pain arise at the source of injury or in another location? In this Discussion, you compare three common types of pain—acute, chronic, and referred.

To Prepare

· Review this week’s media presentation on the neurological system, as well as Chapter 14 in the Huether and McCance text.

· Identify the pathophysiology of acute, chronic, and referred pain. Consider the similarities and differences between these three types of pain.

· Select two of the following patient factors: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior. Reflect on how the factors you selected might impact the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and prescription of treatment for acute, chronic, and referred pain.

Post a description of the pathophysiology of acute, chronic, and referred pain, including similarities and differences between them. Then, explain how the factors you selected might impact the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and prescription of treatment for acute, chronic, and referred pain.
