wk5 ENG102 Rhetorically

Evaluating Sources Rhetorically

Purpose of assignment: To locate and evaluate possible sources for use in your final paper.

Procedure: In the previous assignment, you practiced narrowing the scope of your research question. In the discussion for this week, you shared various aspects of the topic you have selected to write about for the final paper. For this assignment, you will find sources that are relevant to your topic and purpose. This assignment has two parts:

Part A: EBSCO Practice

·  Click here to download a copy of the EBSCOhost practice assignment.

·  Save the document by renaming it with this naming convention: “EN102_yourlastname_yourfirstname_yourGID”

·  As you complete the assignment, write your answers on the template (it is a Word document).

·  Attach this document when you are submitting your responses to this assignment.

Part B: Finding and Evaluating Sources

Search EBSCO to find five scholarly sources relevant to your topic. Evaluate each source in terms of the following five dimensions (see Table 12.3 in Chapter 12 of your textbook for examples):

·  The creator of the source

·  The purpose of the source

·  The age of the source

·  The venue of the source

·  The relevance of the source

Most of your answers to the above should be expressed in one short paragraph for each dimension. What you are looking for is a reason to justify the source’s inclusion in your paper. Each source should offer something unique or different. You may compare and contrast the sources with each other to show how they complement each other. The purpose and relevance must be expressed in your own words, not copied from the source or the source abstract.

Format: This assignment does not have to be written in essay format. You may use or modify the format of Table 12.3, or use any other format that clearly lists each source and each dimension. APA Style is not required for this assignment, but you must include an APA Style References page citation for each source.

Submitting the assignment: Attach your assignment as a single Word document or .pdf file. Attach the EBSCO practice separately. Submit the practice and the essay together as part of the same attempt to the W5 drop bo

Excel

Hi can you please help me with this Finance (Excel). Thanks

The management of Hellier Corporation needs a detail analysis on an adventurous  proposal to introduce a new line of dairy products, which requires an extension of a wing of new production and supply chain. The project acceptance will cease operations on low margin existing paper products. Employees working on paper products line would be trained up to work for dairy products line. Existing plant and equipment (P&E) of paper products line need to be replaced by new P&E of dairy products line. The company invested $850,000 six years ago for existing P&E, which can be sold currently for $240,000 before taxes. These are being depreciated for tax purposes using the straight-line rate of 8% and having a remaining useful life of six years with an expected end of life market value of $40,000.

All required parts and accessories of the new P&E will be supplied by a German firm for a cost $1,200,000 including transportation cost of $50,000. In addition, import duty of $150,000 and installation costs of $200,000 are to be incurred for new P&E. These P&E  would be depreciated for tax purposes over its useful life of six years using the straight line rate of 15%. The new machine can be sold for $300,000 at the end of its useful life.

In understanding the prospect of new dairy products line, Hellier has spent $45,000 for conducting a recent market survey. The survey report has proposed to distribute free samples of $30,000 at the beginning for consumer awareness.

Overall operating costs would be re-structured due to the replacement of product line and it’s expected to reduce overall operating costs by $150,000 per year. The operating costs associated with the existing paper products line are $1,700,000 per year whereas such costs will reduce to $1,550,000 per year for the new dairy products line. In addition to initial employee training cost of $40,000, there will be additional training expense of $25,000 in the first year. It is also estimated that the expanded operations of new product line will require an initial increased investment of $60,000 in stock and $40,000 in debtors that are offset by an increase in creditors of $30,000.

Hellier is going to fill-in a small portion of the total market demand and planning to maintain steady sales over the life of the project. Estimated annual sales revenue of dairy products line will be $5,250,000; whereas, discontinuing paper products line has annual sales of $5,000,000. Therefore, Hellier has to forgo annual before tax net profit of $3.232 million if the existing product line is replaced.

The firm has a 12% weighted average cost of capital and is subject to a 30% tax rate. The required payback period is 3 years.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is hesitant about the decision because of replacing an entire product line. The CFO also asks whether or not the discount rate should be increased to allow for the risk of the above replacement or is the WACC appropriate?

 Required

Using Excel Spreadsheet prepare a full analysis to be presented to the CFO of Corporation evaluating whether the existing product line should be replaced by the new product line. Your analysis should include the following

 Required

·         Cash flows

·         NPV

·         IRR

·         Payback period

wk5 Brainstorm ENG102

For this discussion, share the topic you’ve chosen to write about for your Week 6 Rough Draft. (You might want to jump ahead and review the requirements for this assignment.) Share the following aspects of your topic:

  • Exigence: What has prompted you to respond to this topic? (Other than the exigence of having to write a paper to earn a grade. This is a given.)
  • Potential audiences: Identify three potential audiences who might be interested in or affected by this topic. (Your audience cannot be “everyone,” “the general public” or any other broad or vague audience. Be as specific as possible in defining potential audiences.)
  • Possible avenues of research: What will you need to know or learn about in order to write effectively on this topic? Where might you find this information? (Note: Scholarly sources will be required of the Rough Draft, though you may use any other sources you deem appropriate if you can justify their use.)
  • Most importantly: Generate a research question for your paper. This differs from generating a thesis statement (which is the answer to a question). Instead of deciding in advance what position you want to argue, a research question is open-ended. See the W4 Assignment for examples of research questions.

In your responses, share your thoughts about other students’ topics, especially if you have further ideas for narrowing down the topic, possible audiences, or avenues of research.

Please note: None of this is set in stone. You may change any aspect of the topic (including the topic itself) before you submit the W6 Rough Draft (then you will need to use the same topic for your W8 Final Draft unless you have prior permission, from your instructor, to change the topic. The goal of this discussion is to simply start thinking about your project.

500 words. An introduction to Performance Management.

Various wide-ranging discussions have taken place about what performance management is and what it is not. Heathfield (2018) stated that “performance management is the process of creating a work environment or setting in which people are enabled to perform to the best of these abilities” (para. 3).

For this week’s discussion forum, please answer the following questions:

  1. What      do you believe a performance management system is? Why?
  2. What      have your experiences been with performance management systems?
  3. Why      are performance management systems important to organizations?

Reference: Healthfield, S. (2018, October 31). Performance management. The Balance Careers. Retrieved from https://www.thebalancecareers.com/performance-management-1918226

Submission Requirements:

Within your initial post, support your responses with information from at least 2 peer-reviewed/scholarly source (not older than 3-5 years) and provide the full citation at the end of your post. Please use APA style in-text citations and references to support your posts.

Geo

Below are the requirements.  It is due by midnight this Sunday (Alaska time).

How would you describe the relationship between natural resources, population distribution/density, and economic endeavors in China and neighboring Korea?  What role has the size of each country played in the process of migration and settlement in each?  What do you believe the future holds for China and Korea in terms of population and natural resources?

Your response to this initial post should be at least two or three paragraphs in length (at least five sentences per paragraph) and include specific examples to support your opinions.

Your second response, or critique of another student, should be at least one to two paragraphs and do the following:  state what you agree with as to what is written; state what you might not agree with; and, add something else to the discussion.

The second thoughtful response (requirements above) or critique of another students writing is needing to be done to the below 2 paragraphs from a fellow student response.

Science may or may not be the answer to some problems, China for example has been, for quite some time, experimenting with the process of cloning. To date I believe it has been restricted to certain animals but I, for one, think that the idea of cloning something as complex as a human being just plain scares the sh#t out of me. As skilled as some of their scientists may be, and the rest of the worlds scientists as well, I am not sure any of them considered any long term possibilities. Case in point, there are no perfect DNAs in the world, everyone’s DNA contains the potential for disease, deformity and any number of other things. The difference between us is that in many cases the more dominant genes help to suppress the potentially bad genes. Look at baldness for instance, it is usually just described as “running in the family” but it really is just a “bad” gene that is dominant in the males and recessed in the females of the “family”.

That all being said, unlike in the movies, man has not developed the capability to successfully repair or replace “bad genes” or create an entire perfect DNA strain. Many think that gene therapy does this, and mistakenly so, what actually happens is that a stronger gene or DNA strain is introduced or integrated into an existing weaker DNA strain in order to “repair” it or more realistically, make it more of a recessive gene trait. The problems I foresee with the Chinese theory of cloning to solve their problem will end up being one of eventually weakening the DNA available and in most probability create a future generation of clones that may have very weak immune systems, organ development problems, musculature/skeletal issues or general developmental problems both mentally and physically.

Cash Flows

Over lunch, you and Mary meet to discuss next steps with the expansion project.    “Do we have everything we need on sales and costs?” you ask. ”It must be time to compute the net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR) of the Apix expansion project.”   “We have the data from James and Luke regarding projected sales and costs, respectively, for the food packaging project,” says Mary. “It is feasible to project that we will receive a tax break from this implementation. I have information from our audit firm that indicates that future depreciation methods for taxes will be straight-line; however, the corporate rates will be reduced to 35% as we assumed in our weighted average cost of capital (WACC) calculation.”  “That sounds good,” you say.  “Right,” says Mary. “You can use a WACC of 10% for the computation of the NPV and comparison for IRR.” “I’ve got the information I need from Luke and James,” you say. “Does this look right to you? Here’s what they gave me,” you say, as you hand a sheet of paper to Mary.  “Let’s look at this now while we’re together,” she says.  The information you hand to Mary shows the following:

•Initial investment outlay of $30 million, consisting of $25 million for equipment and $5 million for net working capital (NWC) (plastic substrate and ink inventory); NWC recoverable in terminal year

•Project and equipment life: 5 years

•Sales: $25 million per year for five years

•Assume gross margin of 60% (exclusive of depreciation)

•Depreciation: Straight-line for tax purposes

•Selling, general, and administrative expenses: 10% of sales

•Tax rate: 35%   You continue your conversation.

“It looks good,” says Mary. “Use this information from Luke and James to compute the cash flows for the project.”  “No problem,” you say.   “Then, compute NPV and IRR of the project using the Excel spreadsheet I sent earlier today,” says Mary. “Use the IRR financial function for the computation of IRR.”   “Okay,” you say. “I’ll submit my Excel file showing the computation of cash flows, NPV, and IRR by the end of week so you can look at it over the weekend.”   “Thanks,” says Mary.  Complete the above worksheet for this assignment.
