hospital Emergency Management Discussion

  • Post 1

In the next ten years, I foresee the hospital emergency management to be at the forefront in managing any form of emergency hat occur in the country. This would be achieved through adequate training and creating awareness to the hospital personnel on how they can respond and manage any emergency being the first respondent to an emergency. In the future, hospital emergency management is one of the principal agencies when it comes to emergency response would be allocated enough resources that will enable them to be at the forefront in conducting education and training the locals on how they should respond in case an emergency occurs. The resources would also be used to establish an effective communication channel which will be utilized by the hospital emergency responses teams especially when responding to an emergency as this is one of the hospital emergency challenges that the response teams often encounter during a disaster. In the future, hospital emergency management through the Hospital Preparedness Program would have broadened its coalition with the home health, dialysis centers, and nursing homes to effectively offer adequate intervention to those individuals who were impacted by a disaster (Mlcak, Buffalo & Jimenez, 2018). The collaboration in the future would also ascertain that there is improve population-based outcomes and constrain costs.

In the future, the healthcare emergency management would be folded into municipal emergency management as this will ascertain the responsibility of responding to an emergency is shared within the community at large from the different government levels. Through the healthcare emergency management integrated into the municipal emergency management, it would ascertain actively engagement in emergency planning especially operational measures to effectively address emergencies and their impacts in the society at large. Many communities often experience different hazards and vulnerabilities; therefore, folding healthcare emergency management into municipal emergency management the local officials are arguably at the best position to establish the appropriate mix of preparedness measures. The municipal emergency management has a relatively weak fiscal capacity and has many competing priorities, therefore, integrating the healthcare emergency management into the municipal emergency management there would be enough resources that would be utilized towards emergency planning and preparedness (Sylves, 2019). Through the healthcare management folded into the municipal emergency management, it would be receiving much recognition by the government, therefore, engaging in risk management within the community and safeguarding the society from any form of disaster through engaging them in education and training programs on how they can effectively respond to an emergency.

Hospital emergency management has come a long way developing step after a step to what it is today. No doubt that most of these milestones in development have been triggered by disaster events, making the planners wiser for future responses. One such incident that put hospital emergency management on development path was the 9/11 attack. Given this historical background in ten years, hospitals will have come of age in terms of emergency management. I see that most hospitals will have in place disaster preparedness plans in addition to having dedicated budgets towards disaster preparedness. More and more people will have come on board to donate resources for disaster preparedness and management (Kragholm et al., 2017).

I see that emergency health care will have evolved into another hospital responsibility rather than the responsibility being transferred to the municipals. One of the reasons why it will become a hospital responsibility is that hospital as an institution has unique challenges that may not be handled properly in the municipal setting. Hospitals are also special institutions with unique roles to play in organizational disaster response. Having the management and preparedness transferred to the municipal will make it ineffective. I also think that hospitals are able to attract better funding when they are on their own than when they are being managed by the municipal (Mlcak, et al., 2018).
