I want to start off with my role in the US Congress, I would be the majority leader my duties relate to floor duties. The majority leader is the lead speaker for the majority party during floor debates, develops the calendar and assists the president or speaker with program development, policy formation and policy decisions. I think this role explains my personality well I like to be in charge with not too many overwhelming responsibilities.

As a member of the U.S. Congress I would support the regulation of influence of corporations on elections and law-making process due to lobbying.

I believe corporations should be able to take part in advertising who they favor more when it comes to elections or any type of political campaigns if they choose. If a corporation makes the decision to use their funds to advertise then they should be able to. I think there is a reason we have a free market based on supply and demand with little to no government control, it proves the government is giving individuals some kind of freedom, why not allow corporations the same rights. The Freedom of the Press clause of the First Amendment protects associations of individuals in addition to individual speakers and states that the First Amendment does not allow prohibitions of speech based on the identity of the speaker, Corporations as associations of individuals, therefore have free speech rights under the First Amendment too.

I think some in this country have been deprived of full participation in the political process. I believe the First Amendment rights protects corporations right to express themselves about political candidates and issues up until Election Day.

I would support Congress regulating the influence of corporations on elections and the law making process. Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission stated that laws limiting a corporations campaign contributions, violated the free speech rights. I don’t agree with this statement. I agree with the 4 votes that were against this ruling. “The four dissenters, from the “liberal” wing of the Court, argued that corporations and unions, in many ways, are not treated as people and doing so in the case of political contributions could allow those organizations to dominate and further corrupt the political process.” (McAdams, Page 98)

The more rights a corporation has to influence the law making process, the more chances there are for things to further be corrupted. When a company contributes to a particular candidate, they are only interested in what will benefit them the most. The government is supposed to work for the American people not the american corporations, and no matter how much they contribute and how regulated it is, they are only looking out for themselves and what will line their pockets best. The more that corporations can be regulated in the amount of influence they hold, the better it is going to be in the long run. It will ensure that elections and the law making process will work for all instead of just few select corporations.
