Objectives: The presentation assignment has several goals. It requires students to apply concepts from Biostatistics, what are the issues, and study designs. The study designs process will allow students to develop observational, randomized and more on clinical trials and designs, a skill they will be using as Healthcare Administrator.

Format and Guidelines: The student will create a Power Point Presentation from Chapter 1 and 2 of the Textbook and the Article related to Week 2 (Choose your desire topic form these chapters). The Presentation should have a minimum of 12 slides, including Title Page, Introduction, Conclusion, and References. 

The student must use other textbooks, research papers, and articles as references (minimum 3).

2. Introduction: Provide a brief synopsis of the meaning (not a description) of the topic you choose, in your own words

C&L Restaurant #32 

The C & L Restaurant chain has a proud history. It was started in 2004 by two brothers, Cecil and Leicle with one restaurant and has grown to 75 locations in a tri-state area. The restaurant is a fast-casual res- taurant with an extensive menu of scratch, speed scratch and conve- nience items where guests come for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. C&L restaurants pride themselves on a consistently high level of customer satisfaction and repeat customers. 

Miguel Ortiz, the general manager of store #32 is concerned. He has received increasing numbers of guest complaints in the past twelve months. The restaurant has been in business in this location for ten years. There has been very little change in the original menu offerings that have been the corner stone of their success. The staff of the restau- rant, both front and back-of-the-house, has been relatively stable dur- ing that time. The customer base for the restaurant has not changed and they still seem to be drawing their regular crowd. The customers are complaining about both the quality of the food and the service. Miguel is concerned that if the level and severity of complaints continue the business will be impacted. 

Miguel has brought his concern to the attention of the kitchen manager and the dining room manager. He has directed them to moti- vate the staff to reduce the number of complaints. The response of both department heads has been to increase supervision of produc- tion and service. Additionally each has meet privately with Miguel to explain that the poor performance in the other department head’s area is undermining their individual efforts to reduce the number of complaints. 

The kitchen and service staff is comprised primarily of individuals with 5 or more years with the restaurant in the same positions. They were well trained when originally hired and have been doing the same job for a number of years. They are generally unconcerned about the guest complaints because when a guest complains they respond quickly to correct the problem.

Consider the following three hypothetical scenarios, all of which relate to the right to education:

1.  A girl in a rural village in Pakistan has dropped out of secondary school. Staff from an international development organization visit her house to encourage the parents to allow her to attend again. However, her parents say that it is against their cultural traditions for girls to go out the house unaccompanied at that age, and that her help is needed at home, they also point out that the girl herself does not want to attend.

2.  A family has stopped sending their son to primary school. They are part of an ethnic/linguistic minority in their country, and point out that secondary schooling is only available in the national language. They are worried that if their sons keep attending school, their mother tongue will die out. They also don’t feel a secondary education is relevant to their agricultural lifestyle.

3.  A family in a poor, rural area take their second oldest boy out of primary school. They point out that times are very difficult, and unless this boy works in the fields, they will not be able to feed their other four children. Teachers point out that he will have no future if he leaves school, and that education is compulsory according to the law.

In each case, do you think the child in question should be required to attend school? Reflect upon whether age, gender or other circumstances (e.g. culture, family needs) influence your answer.

For this week, we are asking questions such as what is a program evaluation?  How is a program evaluation useful in the field of criminology or criminal justice?  And how do program evaluations further our understanding of social phenomena versus other research tools?

This assignment is twofold: 1) to assess how well you read journal articles and are able to extract pertinent information. Since you will utilize various articles for your research project, it is important that you know how to do this. 2) reading the two journal articles that use content analysis will give a better picture of how it is used in research. Although we did a similar exercise in week one, this is to make sure that you read my initial comments and in this assignment I will see improvement. 

Here are the guidelines: 

1 page, single-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, incorporating both of the assigned readings for the week.  You may not exceed the page limit.  You may not incorporate quotations, under any circumstance, anywhere in this assignment.

After reading the articles please provide, 1) the thesis of both readings, (2) the methodology used in the articles (be specific here), (3) the main findings, and (4) two policy implications.  

Couple of points to consider: Do not summarize the article. Please stick to the four main points above. In addition, be specific about the methods used. Do not just say, “program evaluation.” What did they research? How many participants did they have? Where was it done?
