But first, you must begin by locating scholarly resources which are relevant to your research topic.

In this discussion, you will develop a comprehensive literature search strategy. After reviewing Chapter 5 in How To Do A Systematic Literature Review In Nursing: A Step-By-Step Guide (Bettany-Saltikov, 2012), address the following:

  • Identify each step involved in the comprehensive literature search strategy
  • Outline each step as it applies to your capstone

Next, you will locate two existing scholarly articles from the Purdue University Global library and show evidence of (1) properly paraphrasing and citing the abstract, and (2) directly quoting two sentences from the abstract (with proper attribution). Be sure to include a reference list that corresponds with your general citation and direct quote citation. You do not need a title page.

If you are unsure of the differences between paraphrased content and a direct quote, please refer to the Academic Success Center and review proper formatting and citing techniques. This discussion is preparation for the development of the Unit 5 Annotated Bibliography Template which requires extensive research, writing, and formatting skills.

Cultural Immersion Paper:  Use textbooks, class materials, outside sources, and use APA format (Note: first person expression is expected).  Reflect on your experiences and your prior preconceived ideas.  Which of those preconceived ideas are now open to re-interpretation and why?  What have you learned about yourself and “them” now that the immersion is over?  Take what you have learned about this group and yourself and apply it in a counseling context.  Assume you have a client from this group and discuss each of the following:

  • Use the insights you gained into your preconceived ideas of this group to identify ways you will cope with your internal dialogue about clients from this group.  Have your biases shifted, and how will you keep your internalized biases at bay?
  • What are some likely counseling issues you might expect from this group and why?
  • What approaches (counseling and systemic) will you use and why?
  • What are the ethical and legal issues inherent in counseling a client from this group?

Healing Beliefs And Practices

Culture plays a profound role in the health and healing beliefs and practices of people from all walks of life. This is especially true in times of birth and of death. In this paper, you will examine the array of cultural constructs that influence beliefs and thus behavior related to a health care

Select a cultural group covered in the course or the case study below. Then, submit an eight- to 10-page research paper containing a minimum of six scholarly sources addressing the following case scenario:

An African American/Black man accompanies his 25-year-old Muslim wife to the emergency room. The woman is concerned about severe pains and abdominal cramping she is experiencing. A doctor’s examination finds that the woman is suffering from an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy is one in which a fertilized egg implants outside of the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube. Ectopic pregnancies cannot continue to term. The developing cells must be removed to save the mother’s life.

The doctor explains the diagnosis to the couple and outlines the following medical treatment plan: Insertion of an intravenous (IV) line, administration of pain medication, and surgical intervention. The physician explains that the surgery will consist of the removal of the developing cells with the potential need for blood product administration, and the administration of IV antibiotics. When the couple begins to refuse surgery based on their cultural and inherent religious beliefs, the doctor explains that an ectopic pregnancy is considered an emergency procedure and must take place within the hour.

Given their cultural beliefs,

  • Explain how the couple is likely to respond to the diagnosis and the medical treatment plan.
  • Consider the following when formulating your response:
    • Describe the cultural constructs (conceptual framework) in this scenario that may be in conflict to the Western medical constructs regarding birth.
    • Describe the potential cultural constructs (conceptual framework) of this couple in relation to death.
    • Describe the cultural constructs of this couple regarding illness and disease.
    • Infer the health and healing traditions that this couple may employ based on this scenario.
      • Explain the implications of this cultural intervention for this population.
      • Explain the implications of this intervention to the Western medical establishment.
    • Explain how the medical team might consider responding after hearing the couple’s concerns.
    • Consider the conceptual framework of the health care providers when formulating your response:
      • Explain what is causing the pain and suffering in the ectopic pregnancy.
      • Assess whether one person’s health and well-being are taking a higher priority over another person’s health and well-being (i.e., mother and baby).
      • Describe the health care provider’s cultural construct in relation to this medical
      • Explain what the medical model concluded is necessary for this patient’s situation.
      • Describe the potential outcomes for the patient and the medical team of not delivering culturally appropriate care.

The Final Paper

  • Must be eight to 10 double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style.
  • Must include a separate title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Student’s name
    • Course name and number
    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted
  • Must include an introductory paragraph with a succinct thesis statement.
  • Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.

Abortion Laws and Ethical Considerations

For social workers, the potential conflict between personal and professional ethics can be a source of great contention. Abortion is a highly politicized and contested topic. It is also one that reflects great diversity in terms of opinion, personal and professional ethics, and legal stances varying from state to state. For this Assignment, consider the topic of abortion, the laws of abortion that exist in the state or country in which you reside, and your own opinions on the topic. Also consider the relationship between your personal and professional ethical stance on the topic and how that may affect your interactions with clients.

Submit a 2- to 4-page paper that explains what you discovered about the laws of abortion in your state or country and why this information might be shared with clients. Case Analysis

To prepare: Focus on the  complex but precise definition of a mental disorder in the DSM-5 and the  concept of dimensionality both there and in the Paris (2015) and  Lasalvia (2015) readings. Also note that the definition of a mental  disorder includes a set of caveats and recommendations to help find the  boundary between normal distress and a mental disorder.

Then consider the following case:

Ms. Evans, age 27, was awaiting honorable  discharge from her service in Iraq with the U.S. Navy when her  colleagues noticed that she looked increasingly fearful and was talking  about hearing voices telling her that the world was going to be  destroyed in 2020. With Ms. Evans’s permission, the evaluating [social  worker] interviewed one of her closest colleagues, who indicated that  Ms. Evans has not been taking good care of herself for several months.  Ms. Evans said she was depressed.

The [social worker] also learned that Ms.  Evans’s performance of her military job duties had declined during this  time and that her commanding officer had recommended to Ms. Evans that  she be evaluated by a psychiatrist approximately 2 weeks earlier, for  possible depression.

On interview, Ms. Evans endorsed believing the  world was going to end soon and indicated that several times she has  heard an audible voice that repeats this information. She has a maternal  uncle with schizophrenia, and her mother has a diagnosis of bipolar I  disorder. Ms. Evans’s toxicology screen is positive for  tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). The evaluating [social worker] informs Ms.  Evans that she is making a tentative diagnosis of schizophrenia.

  • Why is making a “tentative” diagnosis problematic?
  • Discuss how the social worker should have approached the diagnosis. In your analysis, consider the following questions:
    • Identify the symptoms or “red flags” in the case study that may be evaluated for a possible mental health disorder.
    • Should the social worker have shared this suspected diagnosis based on the limited assessment with Ms. Evans at this time?
    • Explain the potential impact of this diagnosis immediately and over time if the “tentative” diagnosis is a
